Food was delicious! We especially loved the country fried steak and pork chops! We ordered a family meal for 2, we picked 3 meats and 4 sides. I loved the cabbage and my husband loved the yams. Cornbread muffins were delicious too! Our server Nora was awesome and super attentive!

As always superior customer service from the moment we stepped foot in the door. Susan has a gift. She is truly the most amazing waitperson I've had! Anticipating needs, friendly and so helpful. The food is the best l. We tried different dishes this time. The pear salad is amazing if you want something a bit lighter. You can't go wrong with any of their sides. We drove up for the oxtails and they didn't disappoint!

Had a great lunch today with a large party. All the food was excellent. First and foremost, the corn bread was hot and crispy and oh so tasty with butter. I ordered the oxtail with a side salad and red beans and rice. The oxtail was so tasty with brown gravy. The large piece I ate was a little fatty but still succulent, tasty and tender. It went really well With my red beans and rice! My hubby had the spicy fried chicken. He got 3 pieces but they weren't very big. He enjoyed his mac and cheese and collard greens. The meal was solid. I have enough leftovers for dinner tonight! I did devour my entire salad!

Lots of good flavor. The fried chicken pot pie was really good. My man loved the spicy fried chicken and mashed potatoes. The pot pie Hit the spot that's for sure. We were seated pretty fast for a Saturday so that was nice. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Food didn't take to long to come out. I wish they had a kids menu but the servings we got were enough to share with our toddler.

We decided to get food to go so we could watch the SF Giants game on TV. We've been to Hard Knox Cafe many times. It is my go-to and is in the neighborhood. I ordered my favorite BBQ Pork Ribs, collard greens, stewed cabbage with cornbread muffins. The ribs were flavorful, tender. The collard greens were plentiful and not too salty. The stewed cabbage was tasty and had a slight sweet flavor which I liked. The cornbread muffin was moist and sweet. The entire meal was delicious and I had quite a bit of leftovers. My husband had the fried chicken. He liked the crunchy coating and the tender chicken. He enjoyed the red beans and the potato salad. He devoured the cornbread muffins. The meals in the to-go containers arrived hot and unbelievably delectable. We enjoyed our meals and the Giants game.

If you crave Southern comfort food, and you happen to be near the Outer Richmond, I say come to Hard Knox. They have great fried chicken and corn muffins. We haven't ordered this one in a while but they also make a yummy oxtail dish. The chicken fried steak is also delicious.

We congregated here fairly recently for an early lunch. I was in the mood for something sweet, and they do serve lunch into early afternoon, so I chose their beignets with seasonal fruit. Our waiter, and everyone else we dealt with, was really nice and was happy to make recommendations and answer any questions we had with patience. Prices are what you'd expect for SF. Not cheap but not through-the-roof expensive. My beignets were good! I'm not an expert by any means on southern cuisine and soul food, so I can't judge how good they were compared to the norm. I think the one complaint I have is that they weren't too filling. For the $14 that they cost, I didn't feel full at all after eating four beignets and fruit. That being said, they've got an extensive menu with all the fixings and features you'd find down south -- collard greens, mac and cheese, cornbread (among other things). If you're looking for a decent alternative to the two SF Brenda's locations, try the two Hard Knox locations (like this one) instead. 4 stars

This place is a hometown favorite. The soul food is awesome and the portions are HUGE. It's been awhile since I've been here (10 years?) and I gotta say they still hold up. On the weekends there can be a wait but it's definitely worth it. It took awhile for them to serve us but there was a lot of people on the Sunday we came. Fried chicken was huge and had a great level of spice and flavor to it. I got a side of Mac and cheese with cabbages. Mac and cheese was nice and cheesy and I definitely need a side of veggies with this.

Soul-filling soul food! Food: I tried the fried chicken, mac and cheese, and yam fries. Everything was delicious and absolutely worth trying again. The chicken is crispy but tender and juicy. I tried it with spice and it wasn't very spicy, but flavorful. The Mac and cheese is generously cheesy, and pairs well with the crispy yam fries. My only critique is that the corn muffins were unfortunately cold, dry, crumbly, and bland. Everything else was great! The portions are large! Ambiance: it gets crowded fast here! We arrived close to opening hours on a Saturday and all of the tables were filled and reservations were piled up. However, despite being behind 6 other parties, We only waited about 20 mins before we were seated. Service: I have a lot of respect for this crew! They were extremely efficient and are clearly well versed. Our orders were taken while we were waiting in line and by the time we were seated we only waited about 5-10 mins before our food arrived. I recommend! Be mindful of the wait time, come early or order out if you're on a time crunch!
